Fox Twp. Supervisors approve sewer authority loan

January 7, 2012

The Fox Township Supervisors approved interim funding of $70,000 for the Fox Township Sewer Authority during their Tuesday meeting.
The money will be used to pay the $68,933 balance of the authority's Headworks project, which involved the creation of a pre-filtration system which helps to decrease the wear and tear on the plant.
Cheryl Ruffner, chairwoman of the sewer authority, said the organization received a letter from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure and Investment Authority (PENNVEST) on Sept. 15 advising them that the authority will not receive any additional funds until they meet several requirements on the project, such as undergoing an audit, having the project inspected by the state Department of Environment Protection and completion of the project.
"It will take a while to get these requirements done," Ruffner noted.
She explained that once the authority's funding reaches 95 percent used of the original PENNVEST loan payout, the remaining money will be held until the requirements are met.
The original loan was taken out in 2003 as part of the $5 million Headworks project. Half of the project was funded by the loan, with the remaining half funded by the authority's savings.
