Francis M. Gerber

Francis M. Gerber, 88, of 188 Wehler Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922 in St. Marys, a son of the late Bernard and Theresa Wendel Gerber.
On Aug. 24, 1944 in St. Joseph Church in Force, he married the late Mary L. Parziale Gerber, who preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2005.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Queen of the World Church, where both he and his wife were instrumental in the building of the church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 during WWII. He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after more than 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, where he had also served as Past Commander. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending the winters in Myrtle Beach. He especially enjoyed playing his accordion and spending time with his family.
He is survived by a son, Wayne Gerber and his wife Charlotte of Aurora, Ill.; a daughter, Marlene, Mrs. James Benini of Kersey; four grandchildren,
Brian Gerber and his wife Virginia "Jenny", Betsy, Mrs. Jason Hartong, Krista, Mrs. Jeffrey Artley, and Jason Benini and his wife Amanda; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bette Stewart of St. Marys and Verna Peter of Grand Island, N.Y.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife of 60 years, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Dennis Gerber.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Francis M. Gerber will be celebrated at Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Rd., St. Marys, on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
