Freda Marie Carpin

Freda Marie Carpin, 92, of Madison St., Byrnedale, died early Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home, after a short illness.
She was born on June 18, 1922 in Byrnedale, daughter of the late George and Lily Jeanette (Bennett) Hollobaugh.
She married James J. Carpin in January1939, who died in May 1998.
A lifelong resident of Byrnedale, she lived in the same house for all of her 92 years. 
She was employed by Sylvania of Emporium for many years and worked as housekeeper for the Timm family of St. Marys and for Charlie and Pearl VanSlander, owners of the Elk Casino. She was secretary of Byrnedale Homes in its early years and secretary for the Jay Twp. Water Authority.  When not at work she sold Stanley Home products and became one of their top salespeople.
Mrs. Carpin is survived by five children, Vincent (Diann) Carpin of Orlando, Fla., Linda A. (Chester) Lundy of Weedville, Richard E. (Criss) Carpin of Weedville, Nancy Lee Beck of Brodheadsville, Pa. and Robert J. Carpin of Byrnedale; 19 grandchildren; and more than 150 great and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she is predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Eugene Hollobaugh; one sister, Evelyn Hayes-Thompson; three children, Marilyn Carpin, Alvin Carpin and a son in infancy; one grandson, Richard Carpin; one great-great-grandson, Ben Carpin; one daughter-in-law, Kim Carpin; and one son-in-law, Donald Beck.
Mrs. Carpin was raised as a Protestant, she became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church after her marriage. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, Ladies Aid Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. A visitor of many churches, she attended the Weedville United Methodist Church with her daughter Linda for the past decade. She loved working her garden, canning, cooking, baking, singing and playing guitar.  Her real passion was bowling, which she continued until May of this year. 
She will be truly missed by her five children and numerous grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation for Freda Marie Carpin will be on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Force with Father William Sutherland and Reverend Lola Turnbull.
Interment will be at the St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Jay Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, Bennetts Valley Ambulance or a favorite charity.
