Geno Carobine, 82, of 202 Taylor Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday morning, June 20, 2012 at his home. He was born March 23, 1930, in Weedville, son of the late Domenic and Josephine (Metallo) Carobine. He married Alice Marie Zucchelli on April 18, 1953; she preceded him in death on Dec. 14, 2010. Geno resided in Ridgway for 59 years and was proprietor of Geno’s Barber Shop. He was a graduate of the Weedville High School. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and council member over the years, and was a board member of St. Leo’s Cemetery Association.Geno served in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a volunteer member of the Ridgway Fire Department for most of his life and held officer positions with Capital City Hose Company. He was a member of the Ridgway Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and numerous other social clubs. Geno served as an officer and administrator of the Ridgway Moose Lodge for many years.He is survived by five sons, Daniel and his wife Julie of Ventura, Calif., Thomas and his wife Diane of Ridgway, Timothy and Brian of Williamstown, Mass., Donald of Rockledge, Fla., and Ronald of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Libby, Maria, Matthew, Domenic, Angela, Samantha and Emma; four sisters, Lena Volpe of Penfield, Irene Monte of Penfield, Ann Facchine of DuBois, and Betty Georgino of St. Marys; one brother, Anthony of New York City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Domenic; and two sisters, Mary Yonkofski and Angela Rhodes. A Mass of Christian Burial for Geno Carobine will be celebrated at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ridgway on Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m., with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Officiating will be Father Ross Miceli, resident priest at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Leo’s Cemetery.Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A wake service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 7:45 p.m.Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Leo’s Catholic Church or the Ridgway Fire Department.
