George J. Samick 70, of 717 Evergreen Rd., St. Marys, died on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a brief illness.
He was born May 16, 1941 in St. Marys, a son of the late George and Bertha Prechtl Samick.
On April 4, 1972, he married Sandra Copella Samick, who survives.
Mr. Samick was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1959.Â He retired from Morgan AM&T after more than 47 years of service and was a member of Queen of the World Church.
In addition to his wife of nearly 40 years, he is survived by a son, Mitchell Samick and his wife Katie of Latrobe; a daughter, Mallory Samick of St. Marys; three sisters, Dorothy Newell of St. Marys, Eleanor, Mrs. Ronald Newell of St. Marys, and Carol, Mrs. Alfred "Butch" Sporner of St. Marys; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Maurus, Howard, William, Raymond and Gerald Samick; three sisters, Jane Pollick, Alice Nasoni and Lillian Hillebrand; and by two sisters in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for George J. Samick will be celebrated at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Rd., St. Marys, on
Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 at 12 p.m., with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor,Â and the Rev. Daniel Woelfel, OSB, and the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, as concelebrants.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, on Tuesday morning from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Weedville.
