George A. Long

George A. Long, 67, of River Road, Weedville, died on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011 at DuBois Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 6, 1944 in DuBois, son of the late George V. and Gladys (Gardner) Long.
He married Marlene (Huff) on Jan. 19, 2011. She survives.
Mr. Long was a graduate of Bennetts Valley High School and lived all his life in Bennetts Valley. He was retired, having worked as a security guard at Treasure Lake for 41 years and also owned and operated the Longbranch Tavern of Weedville for 16 years.
He was a member of the George B. Wagner Masonic Lodge #639, a 32nd-degree member of the Coudersport Consistory, a member of the Bennetts Valley Sportsmen's Club, the Bennetts Valley American Legion Post 978 and the Hosannah Full Gospel of Byrnedale. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and NASCAR fan.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife; two step-daughters, Mrs. Donald (Michele) Hockman of St. Marys and Mrs. Gary (Jayne) Defrain of Byrnedale; two stepsons, Geoff Sidelinger and his wife Sheila of Weedville and Ray Mong and his wife Pam of Benezette; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Long; and one stepson, Michael Sidelinger.
A funeral service for George A. Long will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, with the George B. Wagner Masonic Lodge members, followed by Pastor Vince Davis. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at the Bennetts Valley Legion Post 978 with Pastor Vince Davis.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Jay Township Volunteer Fire Company.
