George T. Stroup

George T. Stroup, 85, of Weedville, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, in New Jersey.
He was born Jan. 3, 1925 in Greenville, son of the late Joseph and Mabel Patterson Stroup.
He married E. Jane Rhine, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He retired as an engineer from Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, Ohio. He was a member and past officer of the American Legion Post #978 in Weedville, Penfield Firemen’s, Bennetts Valley Senior Center, Kersey Eagles Club H, and Maple Shade VFW Post #2445 in N.J. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korea, and was awarded the Purple Heart, Oakleaf Cluster and Bronze Star.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Domenic (Wendy) Marano of Maple Shade, N.J.; a sister, Laura T. Stroup of Newport Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Daniel and Justine Marano; and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Chris T. Stroup, and by his 13 siblings. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Funeral services for George T. Stroup will be held Sunday, at 1 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, with Rev. Ken Sherwood officiating. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery.
The Weedville American Legion Honor Guard will accord military honors.
Visitation will be held Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial donations to The American Legion Post #978 in Weedville.
