Gilbert F. “Gib” Yeager
Gilbert F. “Gib” Yeager, 86, of 155 Russ Lane, St. Marys, died peacefully at his home with his family by side Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2013 after a brief illness.He was born Jan. 13, 1927 in St. Marys, son of the late George and Marcella Schatz Yeager. On Sept. 20, 1952 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Frances “Pam” A. Pontzer, who survives. Mr. Yeager was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Public High School. He was one of the original co-owners of Kersey Tool and Die, retiring in 1994.He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, where he also volunteered; was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Merchant Marines; and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the APMI, the American Legion, the CMF and the Tuesday morning card gang. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, gardening and especially spending time with his family.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Nancy DePanfilis and her husband Michael of Ridgway, Pamela Hunt and her husband Wayne of St. Marys, and Kathy Samick and her husband Ron of St. Marys; two sons, Timothy Yeager and his wife Kathy of Atlanta, Ga. and James Yeager and his wife Jan of New York; nine grandchildren, Katie DePanfilis, Ross DePanfilis, Alex DePanfilis, Megan Brennen, Erika Yeager, Christopher Yeager, Stephanie Yeager, Caitlin Yeager and Andrew Yeager; and two sisters, Martha Dale Moyer of El Segundo, Calif. and Shirley Buerk and her husband Chris of St. Marys.Family and friends of Gilbert F. "Gib" Yeager are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
