Girl Scouts celebrating 100th anniversary this weekend

March 6, 2012

Photo submitted - Girl Scouts from the St. Marys area participate in a Mass and ceremony celebrating 99 years of Girl Scouts last year at St. Marys Area High School.

Area Girl Scout troops will mark the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts in the United States with a special Mass and ceremony at 11 a.m. this Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
In past years, ceremonies have been held at various area churches of different religious dominations, and St. Mary's Church has been chosen for this year's venue.
Barb Schneider Daniels, co-director of St. Marys Area Girl Scout Neighborhood, is the chief planner of the event. She said the purpose of the Mass and ceremony is to acknowledge area Girl Scouts, Girl Scout leaders and volunteers and community members who have been involved in scouting and have helped teach young women "courage, confidence and character."
