'Got wings?' Wing Fling celebrates 10th anniversary

August 5, 2011

In past years, the Wing Fling has hosted a wing-eating contest, shown in the photo. Tickets for the 2011 Wing Fling will go on sale Monday beginning at noon. File photo by Amy Cherry.

Over the past 10 years, area residents have feasted on a variety of chicken wings from area eateries as part of the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce and PNC Bank Wing Fling. The Chamber's annual signature event is being held this year on Sept. 9 from 6-9:30 p.m. along Market Street in downtown St. Marys and will feature the local band Remedy, set to rock the Wing Fling this year as the scheduled entertainment.
On Monday, 550 tickets for the 10th annual event will go on sale to the general public beginning at noon. Those seeking tickets must contact the Chamber office at 781-3804, the same procedure as in years past.
Once again, callers are limited to purchasing a maximum of six tickets per phone call. All orders will be taken by phone-- no walk-in orders will be permitted-- and when placing an order, callers need to provide their name, phone number, number of tickets and T-shirt sizes for those attending.
Tickets must be paid for by the end of the business day on Thursday, Aug. 11. Any tickets not paid for at that time will be redistributed to the waiting list. Payments may be dropped off at or mailed to the Chamber office at 53 S. St. Marys St., St. Marys, PA 15857.
The $20 ticket includes the price of a T-shirt in sizes small through XL, and $21 for size XXL and XXXL T-shirts.
"We only have two phone lines available, so we encourage everyone to keep calling until they get through," said David Larkin, Wing Fling committee chairman, who noted that in past years, tickets have sold out in about two hours.
