The popular hit movie "Grease" is being brought to the stage as this year's musical at St. Marys Area High School.
Showtimes are Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. inside the school's Carpin Auditorium. Tickets are $7 each and will be sold at the door with no advance ticket sales or reserve seating. Run time for the show is expected to last between 1.5-2 hours with a 15 minute intermission.
"It's a great time. Most people are familiar with the movie and the musical contains many of those songs that we’ve all grown to love. It’s definitely something people won’t want to miss!" said Ann Defilippi, sound director and choreographer. "It's going to be a rock n' rollin' good time!"
Set in 1959 the musical takes place during the first day of school following seniors at Rydell High. Danny Zucko, played by Sam Atwell, is the leader of the T-Birds and is surprised to discover his summer romance, Sandy Dumbrowski, played by Cassie Williams, is the new student at Rydell. As the pair reunites, the musical is filled with confusion, drama and comedy as Danny contemplates if hanging out with the good girl will tarnish his cool image.
In the mean time the rest of T-Birds, including Kenickie, played by Noah Schloder, Roger, played by Brad Sidelinger, Doody, played by Brent Bartlett and Sonny, played by Nicos Sette, continue their teenage angst while the Pink Ladies, including (Betty) Rizzo, played by Claire Waggoner, Marty, played by Shannon Geer, Jan, played by Torri Wonderly and Frenchy, played by Jenna Frey, decide if Sandy is the right fit for their group.
This year's 70-member cast features students from SMAHS and Elk County Catholic High School as well as youngsters from fifth and sixth grade.
