Green ribbons mark Lyme Disease Awareness Month

St. Marys resident Yolanda Wolfel is shown during a recent St. Marys City Council meeting, where she provided an array of information in recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness Month in May. She explained the reason for the lime green ribbons tied around downtown parking meters in St. Marys is part of a nationwide campaign to alert people about Lyme disease. Elk and Cameron counties have led the state for the most cases of Lyme Disease for the past 23 years, according to Wolfel, who explained that she and her husband were diagnosed with the disease in 1990 after visiting 14 different doctors in an attempt to determine the cause of their medical issues.
