Jay Township Supervisor Francis Gustafson announced during the supervisors' monthly meeting Thursday evening that he plans to hold monthly gatherings with township residents to discuss important issues related to Marcellus Shale drilling, which is becoming more prevalent in the township and throughout the area.
"I think it is very important that the people get involved, and I have other people that will come in [and present information]," Gustafson said. "It's not going to go away."
He indicated that the gatherings would be held separate from the monthly supervisors' meetings and would only be informational sessions that would not need to be attended by a quorum of the township's supervisors.
"I'll have other people there besides myself to sit down and talk. They'll gladly come down," Gustafson said.
He remarked that Friday might be the best day to hold the informational sessions since the township's municipal building is not otherwise in use during that time.
"Come out, spend an hour or two, maybe I'll make it once a month. We'll meet and get all the information we can on it just to help in any way we can to do what we can with it," Gustafson said.
He asked all individuals who are interested in attending the sessions to give him their contact information and he will let them know when a date for the first gathering is set.
"What I [need] to do is talk to the speakers. It will be on a Friday, more or less," Gustafson said.
