Harold H. “Bud” Erich

Harold H. “Bud” Erich, 77, of Gardner Hill Road, Weedville, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 2, 1937 in St. Marys, son of the late LeRoy "Curley" and Helen "Honey" (Geitner) Erich.
On June 7, 1961, he married Carol J. (Smith) Erich, who survives.
He was born and raised in St. Marys and had been a resident of Bennetts Valley for the last 50 years. He served in the Army Reserves and worked for Stackpole/Carbone for 43, retiring in 1999.
He was an avid turkey hunter and lifetime member of the National Wild Turkey Federation where he had served as secretary. Bud also served on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Wild Turkey Federation, as editor of the federation’s publication, Turkey Talk; and in 1977, being an outdoor writer, photographer and artist, Bud received the first Dr. David D. Wanless Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to the state federation. In the fall of 1977, he also started serving a three year term on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association, a professional organization of writers, artists, photographers, broadcasters and telecasters dedicated to informing Pennsylvanians about the wise use and management of natural resources. He had written a monthly column for the statewide publication, Outdoor People, served as field editor for the Northcentral Division of Pennsylvania, for the publication and has also been printed in numerous other publications. Besides his outdoor writing, drawing and photographs, Bud was also well known for his photographic skills as a wedding photographer for many local families.
Mostly Bud enjoyed his time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Candy (Mike) Pyne of DuBois, Crystal (Craig) Ginther of Weedville and Dean (Kristy) Erich of Weedville; six grandchildren, Michael, Anthony and Matthew Pyne and Halsey, Shane and Sierra Ginther; one brother, Scott (Therese) Erich of New York; and three sisters, Phyllis (Dick) Shields of Kane, Sandy (Tom) Timblin of West Virginia and Denise "Dee" Erich and fiancé Rick Larkin of Penfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Gayle Constanzo, and one brother, Vaughn Erich.
A funeral service for Harold H. "Bud" Erich will be held Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Weedville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Luther Nelson Jr. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield and from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the Weedville Wesleyan Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hunting for a Cure, P.O. Box 444, Savannah, Tenn. 38372.
