Harold L. "Whitey" Leonberg, 77, of 185 Larch Rd., St. Marys, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 10, 1933 in Zelienople, a son of the late Harold and Stella May Brandstetter Leonberg.
On Feb. 8, 1962 in St. Leo's Church in Ridgway, he married Dorothy Buerk Leonberg, who survives.
Mr. Leonberg graduated from Zelienople High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean ConïŹict from 1953-1955.Â He worked as a draftsman at Ridgway Steel Company for many years.Â He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.Â Years ago he enjoyed coaching football and bowling.Â He was known for his intelligence and enjoyed challenging his mind by watching "Jeopardy."Â Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is also survived by a daughter, Kathy Renaud of St. Marys; two grandchildren, Brittney and Jacob Renaud; a great-grandchild, Adrienne Renaud; three brothers, Ronald Leonberg and his wife Nancy of Mars, David Leonberg and his wife Pat of Ellwood City, and John Leonberg of Evans City; five sisters, Nancy Trenton of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Trudy Buczkowski of Pittsburgh, Betty Haney of Rochester, Pa., Donna Fleek of Florida, and Sally, Mrs. Bud McMillen of Evans City; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Leonberg, and one sister, Bonnie Sharrar.
A memorial service for Harold L. "Whitey" Leonberg will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael St., St. Marys, on Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor of Queen of the World Church, ofïŹciating.Â
Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
Full military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
