Henry W. Smith, 84, of 1393 Million Dollar Hwy., Kersey, died Saturday, August 27, 2011, at his residence.
He was born March 27, 1927, in Brandy Camp, the son of the late Walter and Mary Hollabugh Smith. He married Lillian G. Reisinger, who predeceased him on January 15, 2005.
He had been a Kersey resident for 45 years. He was a member of the Elkton Presbyterian Church. He attended Horton Twp. schools in Brockport, and he attended Vale-Tech and received a certification in auto mechanics. He was employed at Speers for 35 years, where he served as union steward for many years. He was also vice president for Local 502 Union for 12 years before he retired.
Mr. Smith was an avid antique car collector and restored many cars, which he showed in various events in many states. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Midway until 1946.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin H. Smith of Kersey and Chris E. Smith of St. Marys; a grandson, Craig Smith of St. Marys; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Smith and Chauntele Smith of St. Marys; a sister, Dorothy Aul of Kersey; and a brother, James Smith of Indiana.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Smith; and by two sisters, Grace Smith and Mary Yonkie.
Memorial services for Henry W. Smith will be held in the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 31 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Mr. Ralph Chubbuck, Lay-Preacher, Elkton Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Earlyville Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service (10 a.m.)
