This past summer, Benjamin Herbstritt, his fellow scouts and some friends completed a raised garden for the residents of Elk Haven Nursing Home. Ben is a member of Boy Scout Troop 95, which is sponsored by the Sacred Heart Parish. As an Eagle Scout candidate, Ben is required to perform a leadership serrvice project. After speaking with the director of resident activities and the director of environmental services at Elk Haven Nursing Home, it was decided that a raised garden would be a nice addition to the patio area. This raised garden will allow the residents to perform gardening from a seated position. Since its completion, many of the residents have already begun using the raised garden.
Ben would like to acknowledge Tim Ruffner, director of environmental services at Elk Haven, and the maintenance department for all of their help and the use of their equipment. Also, he would like to express his appreciation to Suburban Building Center, Hoss's, Burke's Home Center, Lowes and the many private donors for their generous donations.
