Herman J. Smith Jr., 60, of 711 Vine Road, St. Marys, died on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born January 13, 1951 in St. Marys, a son of the late Herman J. and Anna B. Eckert Smith.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Queen of the World Church, where he had also served for many years as an usher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. e retired from Alltel after more than 37 years of service and was a member of the Campowners. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He especially enjoyed gardening. 
He is survived by a son, Matt Smith of St. Marys; two daughters, Katie Smith and Sarah Smith, both of St. Marys; a brother, Bill Smith and his wife Kathy of St. Marys; a sister, Ann, Mrs. Barry Brumbaugh of Utah; and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Anderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Herman J. Smith Jr. will be celebrated at the Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, as celebrant.
A military service will be conducted by the St. Marys Serviceman's Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
