Hometown music groups earn top titles

May 11, 2012

Photo submitted - The SMAHS repeated as Scholastic Open Champions in Wildwood, NJ. This is the ninth time in 10 years the team earned the top title.

Chapter Championships proved to be a successful endeavor for the 2012 indoor performance groups from Elk County Catholic and St. Marys Area high schools. A standing-room-only crowd gathered inside the SMA gymnasium and witnessed both the ECC and SMA colorguards finish their regular season undefeated and be crowned Chapter 11 Champions. Also named Chapter Champs were the SMA dance team and drumline as well as the ECC drumline, which brought home a close second-place finish.
Forty-two groups of percussion, colorguard, dance and baton twirlers competed in the 2012 championships.
