Increase in funds requested for building demolition
Community and Economic Development Coordinator Tina Gradizzi received approval from St. Marys City Council to submit a modification of the city's 2010 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) budget in order to cover demolition costs for the former Mullaney Shoe store, located at 43 N. St. Marys Street. The modification includes requesting $80,000 to fund demolition and clearance costs for the project.Currently the city has approximately $20,000 in escrow funds to use towards the project, with the Redevelopment Authority (RDA) committing an additional $30,000. The RDA was informed that additional funds may be needed depending on the bids received for the project."Our engineer is anticipating the demolition costs to be higher than $50,000; therefore, in order to move forward with the project and allow council to award bids that will be received and opened on October 12, I would like to request a modification," Gradizzi said. "After the project is completed and all demolition and clearance costs have been paid, then any remaining funds will be allocated back to the RDA's list of projects."In 2010 the city was awarded $101,274 for its CDBG entitlement. These funds are used to address projects in the slum/blight designated areas as well as spot blight projects.
