Investigation touched off after pipe bomb defused in Kersey

FOX TWP. – According to police reports, on Monday morning a passerby in a remote, wooded area of Kersey found what authorities are calling a pipe bomb. It was around 8:35 a.m., Monday morning when police were called to the area of Boone Mountain Road, south of Sawmill Run Road in Fox Township for reports of a suspicious package laying alongside the roadway. Police say what they found was a makeshift explosive device, comprised of a metal pipe, approximately 4 inches long and three-quarters of an inch in diameter with threaded end caps. The state police Hazardous Device and Explosives section dismantled the device without incident.
