Jack R. Crawford, 91, of Penfield, died Thursday, May 3, 2012.
He was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Penfield, son of the late Albert and Effie Colwell Crawford. In October 1953, he married Charlene Irvin, who preceded him death on Sept. 13, 1970.
Jack was a lifelong Penfield resident and was Protestant by faith. He was a 1932 graduate of Penfield High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WW II from June 1942 until Oct. 1945 in the 79th Infantry Recon Division.
He had been employed at Stackpole Carbon in St. Marys for 30 years and was a farmer, enjoying farming for most of his life. He also enjoyed gardening and antique John Deere tractors, and looked forward to attending his Army reunions.
He is survived by a daughter, Bona (Mark) Challingsworth of Penfield; two sons, William Crawford of Penfield and Kenneth (Elsie) Crawford of Reynoldsville; a sister, Anna Belle Elliott of New Orleans, La.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his very special friend of over 30 years, Evelyn Kephart, also of Penfield; and his great-grand-dog, Molly.
Funeral services for Jack R. Crawford will be held Monday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home in Brockway, with Pastor Debra Rogosky officiating.
Burial will take place at Beechwoods Cemetery at Falls Creek. Full military services will be accorded Monday morning at the funeral home by members of Parson-Marnatti Post #95 of the American Legion.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
