James C. "Duffy" Haberberger, 82, formerly of 1050 S. Michael Rd., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 5, 1928 in St. Marys, a son of the late Fred and Margaret Friedl Haberberger.
On Oct. 4, 1956 in Queen of the World Church, he married Anna Mae Lecker Haberberger, who survives.
Mr. Haberberger was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Queen of the World Church.Â He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.Â He retired after 48 years from Straub Brewery, where he was a brewmaster.Â He enjoyed hunting, ï¬shing and working in his garden.Â He was the last member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Anna Mae Lecker Haberberger, he is survived by two sons, Michael Haberberger of St. Marys and James D. Haberberger and his wife Katie of Bluffton, S.C.; four grandchildren, Nicole, Mrs. Paul Vogt, Logan and Mitchel Haberberger and Savannah Epps; and a great-grandchild, Cayden Vogt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and a sister.
Due to renovations at Queen of the World Church, a Mass of Christian Burial for James C. "Duffy" Haberberger will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Center St., St. Marys on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at noon, with the Rev. Michael Ferrick and the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, concelebrating.Â Military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, on Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
