James E. "Jim" Howard

James E. “Jim” Howard, 71, of 17 Klondike Rd., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct.11, 1939 in Olean, NY, son of the late Ralph E. and Julia M. Oviatt Howard.
He married Janet Pearl Sample on Aug. 23, 1958. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1988. On March 15, 1991, he married Kathryn Allegretto Valentine, who survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg since 1990 and was formerly of Wilcox. He attended school in Clermont and graduated from Smethport High School in 1957. He was a member of the Johnsonburg Baptist Church, Johnsonburg American Legion, Central Hose Co., Prince of Piedmont Club, Rolfe Sportsmen’s Club, Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club, Wilcox American Legion and Mt. Jewett American Legion. He loved spending his time hunting and fishing. He was employed at Keystone Carbon Co. in St. Marys.
He is survived by a son, James M. Howard and his wife, Julie, of St. Marys; four daughters, Cynthia, Mrs. Harold Lilly of North East, Brenda, Mrs. Lane Cook of Erie, Tammy, Mrs. Anthony Cherry of Johnsonburg and Nicole, Mrs. Gerald Freeman of Cornelia, GA; and two step-sons, David R. Rigard and his wife, Jennifer, of Johnsonburg, and James R. Rigard of Wilcox; and by 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Frank E. Howard, and a sister, Julia Anne Warters.
Funeral services for James R. Howard will be conducted at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, this evening at 7 p.m. with lay pastor Robert Johnson of the Johnsonburg First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at the Clermont Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 4 to 7 p.m.
