James E. Reiter
James E. Reiter, 85, of Brownell Drive, Rasselas, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh after a lengthy illness.He was born Feb. 17, 1928 in Philipsburg, son of the late James Earl and Jean (Price) Reiter Sr.On May 2, 1948 he married Naoma (Thompson), and she survives. He was born and raised in Philipsburg and has lived in Rasselas since 1973. He was a graduate of Philipsburg High School, Class of 1946.He served in U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1948 with a Seaman Apprentice, Music Striker rating.He was the owner/operator of Reiter’s Meats in Rasselas.He was a member of the Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wilcox. He was also the founder of Reiter’s Meats of Rasselas which is still in the family today. He was an accomplished saxophone player and tenor vocalist and had organized and directed an 8-piece orchestra in the Philipsburg area in his youth. He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping and especially boating. He was a member of the Wilcox Sportsmen’s and past member of the Johnsonburg Lions Club and Clermont Sportsmen’s.In addition to his wife, Naoma (Thompson) Reiter of Rasselas, he is survived by two children, Connie (Jack) Swanson of Rasselas and James P. (Pamela) Reiter of Rasselas; four grandchildren, Bradley (Heather) Reiter of Rasselas, Megan (Brad) Park of Sigel, Chris Swanson and his partner Sherri Himes of Rasselas, and Bob Swanson and his partner Michele Saf of Rasselas; two great-grandchildren, Tenley and Taylynn Reiter; a brother, Edward (Daisy) Reiter of Philipsburg; a sister, Mildred Kosut of Philipsburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet dog, Libby. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Martin “Skip” Kosut.Funeral Services for James E. Reiter will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Ubel Funeral Home in Johnsonburg with Pastor Stephen Fair officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Military members are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Wilcox Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home in Johnsonburg. The family suggests memorials to the Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wilcox.
