The Jay Township Board of Supervisors at Thursday's meeting set a date for a special meeting to approve the board's backing of a $107,000 loan for the township's water authority to implement improvements to the township's water treatment plant.
Supervisor Jeremy Rippey said the board's official adoption of an ordinance guaranteeing the loan was scheduled for Thursday's meeting but needed to be pushed back after a clerical issue arose with the loan paperwork submitted to the bank.
The board's decision to guarantee the loan comes after a lengthy discourse which included Supervisors expressing reluctance citing what they referred to as unstable water authority finances and even considering phasing out the water treatment plant altogether through the township's connecting to St. Marys for water service.
At a previous meeting Rippey said in looking at the operating budget he has lingering questions and doesn't want to back bad debt saying "If everything fails, the township has to pick up the pieces."
