The Jay Township Board of Supervisors, in an effort to exert control over Marcellus Shale activity occurring within the municipality, have found themselves bound in their attempts by bureaucratic red tape.

Unsecured explosives used in the seismic testing process being stored in the Spring Run area of the township was one of the concerns discussed at last month's meeting of the board, with Supervisor Fran Gustafson saying he would contact the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) in determining what recourse, if any, the township had in addressing what officials consider to be a potentially dangerous situation.
