Jerome E. Gerg Sr.

Jerome E. Gerg Sr., 81, of 345 Toby Rd., Kersey, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born March 9, 1930 in Dagus Mines, son of the late Gerald and Anna Bauer Gerg.
On Jan. 20, 1955, in Pittsburgh, he married Nancy L. Smail, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2007.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Boniface School. He was a retired employee of Dick Eazor Chevrolet in Brockway.
He was a member of St. Boniface Church and a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed making wine and salami, and especially enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Anna Marie "Sis" (Thomas) Gornati of Kersey, Mary E. (Daniel) Sorg of Kersey, and Chris Shannon of Kersey; two sons, Jerome E. (Priscila) Gerg Jr. of Kersey and William G. (Sally) Gerg of Ridgway; 10 grandchildren, Edward Gerg, Darlene Matangelo, Joseph A. Gerg, Amanda Cook, T.J. Gornati, Gregg Gornati, Joseph W. Gerg, William Gerg Jr., Miranda Schmidt, and Ray Sorg; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Gerg (Margaret) of Toby.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Sorge and Marie Cameroni; and by a brother, Gerald Gerg Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome E. Gerg Sr. will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Vogt OSB as celebrant.
Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
