Joan G. Hoffman, 81, formerly of 696 JoJo Rd., Kane, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born April 10, 1930, in St. Marys, she was a daughter of the late Albin and Gertrude Kaiser Kraus.Â
On Sept. 6, 1948, in St. Marys, she married Paul R. Hoffman Sr., who preceded her in death in 2003.
Mrs. Hoffman, a mother and homemaker, had been employed as a cook and baker at the former Hillcrest Restaurant for 20 years. She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and served as choir director for many years.Â She also belonged to the Singing Daughters, the Treble Tones and was a member of C.D. of A, Court Callistus #66.
Surviving are 10 children, Donna (Ted) Nelson, Diane (William) Hill and Robert (Bonnie) Hoffman, all of Kane, Mary Lee Stubenhofer of Erie, Christine (Mark) Severance of Wilcox, Anthony (Gloria) Hoffman of Jacksonville, Fla., Gertrude (William) Lorenzo of Ludlow, Karen (Jeff) Horneman of Waterford, Paul (Ida) Hoffman Jr. of Biloxi, Miss., and her foster daughter, Mary Ann (Robert) Kerner of Emporium; a cousin, Jean Neffke of Buffalo, N.Y.; several in-laws in St. Marys, including Ila Kraus, Leander and Betty Hoffman, Alvin and Anne Hoffman, Silvia Sutka and Sarah Hoffman; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ann in 1958; three brothers, William, A. Raymond and Robert; three grandchildren; two step-grandsons; a niece; a sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan G. Hoffman will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Callistus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, officiating.Â Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., where a vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Â
