ST. MARYS - At the Elk County Job Fair held Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Activity Center in St. Marys, 22 employers representing the transportation, telecommunications, manufacturing, healthcare and service industries were on hand to meet with area job seekers like Adam Robuck of Kersey, who said he has been in the job market since October 2010. Robuck said prior to that, he had been employed with GKN Emporium until the company initiated a reduction in its workforce in 2008. After being laid off, Robuck said he went back to school and earned his associate degree and has been actively seeking work ever since.
Robuck said this was his first time attending a job fair and he was hopeful that casting a wide net by submitting applications to a number of employers would ultimately lead to a job opportunity. He said while the first applications he filled out were for positions with local powdered metal factories, he also considered applying for one of the entry-level positions being offered by the Marcellus Shale-related companies in attendance.
"Shale is not my first choice, I'd rather have a local job but If I need one I know they're always hiring," Robuck said.
"They [Marcellus Shale-related companies] actually had a job fair at the Elk County CareerLink this October. My buddy asked if I wanted to go with him. Now I wish I would have," Robuck said.
