John Edward Zernell, Sr.

John Edward Zernell, Sr., 74, of Daniel Street, Brockport, died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Geisinger Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 12, 1939 in Weedville, son of the late Sylvester & Loretta (Spencer) Zernell.
He married Debra (Butler) on February 27, 1988.
He lived most of his life in Weedville and Penfield and the past eight years in Brockport.
Mr. Zernell worked at Carbon Graphite of St. Mary for 34 years. He was a member of the Penfield Firemen’s and past volunteer with Bennetts Valley Ambulance where he served for many years.
He enjoyed fly fishing, playing softball and his animals.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children Joe (Kathy) Zernell of Sara, Pa., Terri (Ken) Hetrick of Reynoldsville, Ed (Denise) Zernell of Weedville, Mike Zernell of Reynoldsville, Charles “Beanie” Zernell of Falls Creek, Angie Tucker (Matt Matson) of Grampian, Amy (Mike) Park of Penfield, Tim Lockwood of Brockport, Cathy Lockwood (Bobby Horner) of Centre Hall; 11 grandchildren, Joey, Cory (Jessie), Erica (Billy), Courtney (Zach), Chad, Alyssa, Mya, Charlie, Caitlin, Sabrina and Crystal and three great-grandchildren Chase, Wesley and Nicholas.
He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Sylvester, Charles and James Zernell; and four sisters, Betty Luchini, Loretta Asalone, Geraldine Fox and Catherine Plaszenski.
There will no visitation for John Edward Zernell, Sr.
Private funeral services will be held at the families’ convenience. Interment will be at the Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or the SPCA.
