John G. Herzing, 74, of 164 Terrace Road, St. Marys, died at his home on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010 following a brief illness.
He was born September 11, 1936 in St. Marys, a son of the late John A. C. and Bertha Weinzierl Herzing.
On May 16, 1959 in Queen of the World Church, he married Loretta Anderson Herzing, who survives.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Church.Â He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.Â He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after more than 38 years of service.Â He later worked at Windfall Products and for the County of Elk.Â He was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife of more than 51 years, Loretta Anderson Herzing, he is survived by a daughter, Davida Ann Rhine of Erie; three sisters, Hyacinth Dauer, Pauline Fritz, and Bernice Lecker all of St. Marys; a brother, Kenneth Herzing and his wife, Mary Lou of St. Marys; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special great-nephew, Jon Leuschel, of whom he was very fond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Scholastica Weidenboerner, Valery Lambert, Audrey Skiba and Faith Holben; and a brother, Aurelius Herzing.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for John G. Herzing will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, 139 Church Street, St. Marys, on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, as celebrant.Â Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Military funeral honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
There will be no visitation.Â
