John H. "Doc" Schauer

John H. "Doc" Schauer, 82, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, and formerly of 234 George St., St. Marys, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 24, 1928 in St. Marys, a son of the late Anthony J. and Luitgard Schinabeck Schauer.
Mr. Schauer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He served in the Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after more than 40 years as a tool and die maker. He was a member of the Stackpole Quarter Century Club, past president of the Elk County Sportsman's Association, a life member of the Elks Club and the NRA, and a member of the American Legion and the Moose. He was also a retired member of the Crystal Fire Department. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a sister, Peggy, Mrs. William Dippold of St. Marys; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen McBurney.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for John H. "Doc" Schauer at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael St., St. Marys on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crystal Fire Department, Erie Avenue, St. Marys; Silver Creek Terrace, Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys; or to a favorite charity.
