John A. Schwabenbauer

John A. Schwabenbauer, 93, a resident of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, and formerly of 615 Sherry Rd., St. Marys, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 31, 1918, in St. Marys, son of the late Walter H. and Gertrude C. Wickett.
On May 22, 1946, in the St. Boniface Church in Kersey, he married Adeline D. Mosier who preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 2010.
Mr. Schwabenbauer was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1935. He was a retired employee of Keller Oil, retiring in 1984 after 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and a veteran of WWII having, served in the Army Air Corps and was a member of the K of C, AARP, and the American Legion. He loved gardening, playing Scrabble, and taking care of his birds.
He is survived by a son, John C. "Jack" Schwabenbauer and his wife Sandra of Altoona; four grandchildren, Lori Provost, Adam Schwabenbauer, Bradley Pike and Andrea Hamel; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Schwabenbauer of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Karl T. Schwabenbauer, who died Sept. 23, 1988; four brothers, Walter, William, Thomas, and Donald R. Schwabenbauer; and two sisters, Marion Lenze and Mabel Grotzinger.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John A. Schwabenbauer will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, officiating.
There will be no visitation.
