John W. Gaskill

John W. Gaskill, 82, of 808 Washington St., St. Marys, and a resident of Pinecrest Manor, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 11, 1929 in Trenton, N.J., son of the late Floyd and Anna Yeager Gaskill.
On April 5, 1973, in Ridgway, he married Jeanne D. Dippold, who survives.
He was a graduate of Trenton High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He had resided in St. Marys since 1973 and was employed as a union carpenter and worked as a construction superintendent. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, his family, especially his grandchildren, and Indy car racing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed competition roller skating.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Melissa Gaskill of St. Marys and Jacalyn VanDewark and her husband David of Sayre; eight grandchildren, Acacia Chaplain, Alexa Gaskill, Glenn, Jeremy, Kristopher, Matthew, Micah and Elizabeth; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Gaskill of Painter, Va., and William Gaskill of Trenton, N.J.; a brother-in-law, Charles Voorhees of Trenton, N.J.; and by several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends of John W. Gaskill are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Tuesday at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Daniel Wolfel, OSB officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
