Joseph V. Urmann Jr.

Joseph V. Urmann Jr., 92, of 409 Shelley Dr., Ridgway, died early Monday morning, Dec. 23, 2013, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was born July 29, 1921 in Ridgway, son of the late Joseph V. and Ruth (McMackin) Urmann Sr.
He married Jean Adam on Aug. 28, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2008.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a 1939 graduate of the Ridgway High School, and a 1943 graduate of St. Bonaventure.
He had been a member of the St. Leo Catholic Church, the K of C, the Elks, the V.F.W., and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII.
Joe had been co-owner of Valley Coal and Supply.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn J. Stott and her husband John of Kiawah Island, S.C.; two sons, William G. Urmann and his wife Therese of Ridgway and James R. Urmann and his wife Laurina of Ridgway; 11 grandchildren, Kylie Stott Pittman, Adam Stott, Madeline Urmann Strack, Joseph K. Urmann, Rosalie Urmann Lowry, Isabelle Urmann, George Urmann, Andrew Urmann, Paul Urmann, William J. Urmann, and Robert Urmann; a great-grandchild, Jason Strack; three sisters, Sister Ann Loretta of Erie, Helen Urmann of Ridgway, and Ruth Ann O'Conner of Florida; two brothers, James M. Urmann of Florida and John M. Urmann Sr. of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Scott Urmann; a great-grandchild, Aiden Strack; and a brother, Edward Urmann who died in childhood.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph V. Urmann Jr. will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Fr. Brian E. Vossler, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at Thayer Memorial Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
A Wake Service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 7:45 p.m.
