Jude R. Gleixner, 82, of 375 Krug Ln., died peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 20, 1931 in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late George and Margaret (Buerk) Gleixner. He attended St. Marys Parochial School and graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea with the 5th Regimental Combat Team. After his discharge, he attended Penn State University, graduating in 1958 with a degree in chemical engineering. Upon graduation he worked as a project engineer at the Dupont Mylar plant in Ohio. In 1965 he returned to St. Marys and was employed as a project manager at Keystone Carbon Company, retiring in 1996.
On Aug. 27, 1955 in the St. Maryâ€™s Church, he married Twila (Krug) Gleixner.
Jude was very active in community and professional organizations. He was past chairman of Queen of the World Cub Scout Pack 100 and a past chairman of the Penn York section of the American Chemical Society where he was a member until his death. He also served on the local science fairs for several years. Jude served four years as chairman of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, six years as vice president of the St. Marys Area School Board, and four years on the Redevelopment Authority of St. Marys. He was elected Secretary of the Joint Study Commission which established the home rule charter of the City of St. Marys. He also served many years as Vice Chairman of the St. Marys Planning Commission, retiring in 2012.
Jude was an avid gardener, woodworker, photographer, and baker of bread and cookies for his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing and was a lifelong member of the St. Marys Sportsmenâ€™s Club. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his children, Sandy (Mike) Latini of Pittsburgh, Mike (Paula) Gleixner of State College, Sue (Bill) Rominski of Pittsburgh, and Ann (Bruce) Hermanowicz of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Abby (Jeremy) Cramer, Laura (Mike) Brocklebank, Alison (Pat) Laninger, and Josh Latini; and one great-grandchild, Kyle Cramer.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Dorothy (Joseph) Smith, Mayme (Alois) Rupprecht, Marcella (Stanley) Auman, Marion (Harold) Heindl, and Monica (Jerome) Robacker; and one brother, Alfred (Frances) Gleixner. He was the last member of his immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jude R. Gleixner will be celebrated in the St. Maryâ€™s Church on Saturday, May 31 at 12 p.m. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemenâ€™s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Maryâ€™s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, May 30 from 6-8 p.m.
