St. Marys native Justin Martin is busy expanding his skills as a leader while helping American citizens in his employment as an operations supervisor in the Erie District Office of the Social Security Administration (SSA).
Martin supervises the office's claims representatives, who are responsible for taking and adjudicating claims for retirement, disability, and survivor’s benefits. He is also involved in the supervision of the service representatives, who assist callers and visitors to the office in a wide variety of Social Security matters.
"In my profession I am able to provide support and instruction to the office staff who are responsible for assisting the portions of our community that are in the most need, namely the disabled and the elderly," Martin said. "It is very rewarding to know that what my agency does in its daily operations goes a long way toward helping the American public."
The 1996 graduate of St. Marys Area High School attended Edinboro University and earned a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish Language in 2003. He is the son of Dave and Gloria Martin of N. Michael Street in St. Marys and is married to Jennifer Shope-Martin. The couple has two sons, Anthony, 5, and Gabriel, 2.
Martin said he enjoys spending time with his wife and children and sharing in the experiences the children have, which entails taking advantage of the many family-friendly attractions in the Erie area.
"Living in Erie with young children means many trips to Presque Isle beach and to the Erie Zoo, both of which are constant favorites," Martin said.
While the Martin family spends lots of time together where they live now, they also connect frequently with their relatives in St. Marys.
"We try to get back to St. Marys at least every other month to visit with our families," Martin said.
