Kenneth L. Anderson, 90, of 2323 Edinboro Road, Erie, died on August 7, 2013 at the VA hospital in Erie.
Mr. Anderson was a resident of Springhill Retirement Village for the past two years and for the previous 63 years a resident of Waterford. He had been a long time member of Calvary Covenant Church, and more recently, Waterford Presbyterian and Edinboro United Methodist.
He is a Bronze Star decorated veteran of WWII and is credited, along with one of his fellow soldiers, with capturing 24 German soldiers at one time while serving in combat.
He was born in Kane on July 16, 1923.Â After graduation, he spent three years in the U.S. Army and moved his family from Warren to Waterford in 1950. He worked for Northwest Electric Company for 38 years as a master electrician, retiring in1982. He was a member of IBEW Local #56.Â He served on both the Waterford Township and Fort LeBoeuf school boards during a time of great growth. He was also known for his passion for singing and over the years performed as a soloist for over 50 area churches and several times sang the National Anthem for the Erie Sea Wolves professional baseball team.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jeanne Anderson; four children, Kathy (Rick) Hammer of Wisconsin, Larry (Diann) of Illinois, Diana (Mike) Corner of Edinboro, and Dan (Kathy) of Illinois; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David in 1976.
Visitation for Kenneth L. Anderson will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, August 9 at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford.Â Visitation will also be at Edinboro United Methodist Church at 10 a.m on Saturday, August 10, followed by services at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Lisa Grant, pastor, officiating.Â Burial will be atÂ Waterford Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
