The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team used the two-hit pitching of Taylor Schlimm to raise their record to 6-1 on the year with an 11-0, five-inning victory over the Bradford Lady Owls Friday afternoon at Benzinger Park.
In picking up her sixth win, Schlimm faced 17 batters, surrendering two singles and striking out 10.
For Bradford, Erika Baka gave up 12 hits and walked six.
The Lady Crusaders had 12 hits in the contest, led by Kristy Hanes’ four singles. Jena Struble and Taylor Schlimm each had two singles, while Lyndsey Trumbull had a double. Jessie Ginther, Michelle Imbrogno and Maddy Schneider each singled. Schneider had a hit and a walk in her first varsity start in center field.
“We did quite well considering we haven’t played in 10 days,” said ECCHS coach Joe Coroso. “Taylor Schlimm retired 10 of the 17 batters she faced by herself and Kristy (Hanes) had a great day at the plate.”
Schlimm struck out the side in the top half of the first inning. With one out in the home half of the inning, Struble singled. Hanes followed with a single and Trumbull reached base on an error. A walk to Imbrogno scored Struble to give Elk the 1-0 lead.
Bradford went down in order in the top of the second inning. Schneider walked with one out and moved to second on a passed ball. Ginther singled, with Schneider being thrown out at the plate. Struble walked and stole second. Ginther scored on a passed ball, as did Struble, giving Elk the 3-0 lead.

With one out, Rachel Stauffer walked and stole second base. A single by Schneider scored Imbrogno. Stauffer scored on a passed ball. Ginther reached base on an error. A single by Struble scored Schneider. A single by Hanes scored Ginther and a double by Trumbull scored Struble as Elk led 8-0.
The fourth inning found Bradford hitting into three groundouts. In the home half of the inning, Stauffer reached base on an error. With one out, Ginther walked.
