Taylor Schlimm pitched a one-hitter for the Lady Crusaders on Saturday afternoon at Benzinger Township as the Elk County Catholic girls defeated the visiting Bradford Area Lady Owls by a 6-0 score.
The Lady Crusaders had five hits in the game. The Elk offense was aided by six Bradford errors.
In pitching her sixth shutout of the season, Schlimm struck out 10 Bradford batters and issued no walks. Bradford's Erica Bacha was the losing pitcher as she gave up five hits, struck out six, issued five walks and was the victim of some poor defensive play on the part of her teammates.
Anna Hawkins was the leading hitter for the Lady Crusaders with a single and a double, followed by Jenny Cappiello and Alexa Hansen with a double each and Hannah McGowan with a single.
Lindsey Rinfrette had the only hit for the Lady Owls, a second-inning single.
Neither team was able to score in the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third the ECCHS squad broke into the scoring column. Michelle Imbrogno reached base on an error and advanced on an outfield fly out. Jessie Ginther walked and stole second to put runners on first and third. Both girls then came home on a double by Cappiello to make the score 2-0.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but in the fifth the Lady Crusaders once again hit paydirt. McGowan opened the inning with a single, then Ginther walked and both girls scored on a double by Hawkins to make it 4-0. Hawkins then scored on an error on Cappiello's fly ball to make it 5-0 after five full innings.
Elk Catholic picked up another run in the sixth inning when Ginther reached on a fielder's choice, then scored on a passed ball and an error to make the final score 6-0.
