The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders completed play in the Allegheny Mountain North Division with a perfect 6-0 record with a 58-23 victory over the Sheffield Lady Wolverines Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders opened a 13-2 first-period lead and led by as many as 30 points with 2:16 left in the contest.
â€śIt was a good team effort tonight. We had balanced scoring and we moved the ball well against their zone and penetrated well,â€ť said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner.
â€śThe bench contributed a great deal tonight. The bench scored 34 points for us tonight,â€ť added Pistner.
The Lady Crusaders were led by Macy Neureiter with 12 points on six field goals. Abbi Petrosky was next with 10 points on five field goals.
Sheffield was led by Sami Pollock with eight points on one two and two threes. Jennifer Isenberg was next with six points.
Foul shots by Taylor DaCanal gave Elk the early 2-0 lead. Kristy Hanes hit a two to make it 4-0. Isenberg scored for Sheffield. Elk scored the final nine points of the period as Petrosky hit a two, Jena Struble a three and Neureiter two twos, 13-2.
Hanna Vile scored for the Lady Wolverines to open the second quarter, 13-4. DaCanal made it 15-4 with Petrosky adding another two, 17-4. Stephanie Zimmerman scored for ECC before Vile connected on two foul shots, 19-6. Morgan Onink scored for Elk, 21-6. Isenberg connected on two foul shots to make the halftime score 21-8 in favor of ECC. Sheffieldâ€™s first-half points came on one field goal and six foul shots.
The Lady Crusaders opened the second half on a 6-0 run as Petrosky scored twice and Neureiter once, 27-8. A foul shot by Abby Labesky made it 27-9. Hanes connected on two field goals, 31-9. Pollock and Elkâ€™s Julia Sweeney traded field goals. Isenberger made the score 33-13 at the end of three quarters with a field goal for Sheffield.
Neureiter gave Elk the 35-13 lead with 7:49 left in the game. DaCanal would score twice at the 6:27 mark and the 5:35 mark, 39-13. Neureiter scored with 5:12 left to give Elk the 41-19 lead. Pollock hit a three for Sheffield. Petrosky hit a field goal and Michelle Imbrogno converted two foul shots, 45-16. Mariah Fitzgerald scored for Sheffield before Imbrogno canned two more foul shots and Kayla Weis scored for ECC. Imbrogno sank a foul shot before Neureiter scored off of two steals, 54-20. A three by Pollock made it 54-23. Weis and Sweeney scored for Elk as the Lady Crusaders won 58-23.
The Lady Crusaders are now 14-2 overall. They finished Allegheny Mountain League North Division play with a 6-0 record. They are 2-2 in District 9 League play.
The Lady Crusaders will play host to the DuBois Area Lady Beavers on Wednesday in a District 9 League game. Junior varsity begins at 6 p.m., with varsity scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Wednesday night will be Senior Night for the Lady Crusaders. The senior members of the team, along with their parents, will be recognized in pre-game ceremonies.
Grade School Appreciation Night for the Lady Cavaliers and Lady Crusaders will be held on Monday, Feb. 6 when Elk Catholic plays host to Brookville in a District 9 League game. This is a make up game from Jan. 20

The Elk Catholic junior varsity squad defeated Sheffield by a 35-16 score.
Elk took a 13-2 first-period lead, with both teams scoring four second-quarter points as ECC led 17-6 at the half.
Each team scored seven third-period points. The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Wolverines by an 11-3 margin in the fourth quarter to win the game 35-16.
