PUNXSUTAWNEY - A Petrosky had a hand in all three Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders goals Tuesday night in a 3-0 Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League Central victory over the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks.
ECC junior Abbi Petrosky scored twice in the game. Her first goal came with 23:21 left until halftime. Freshman Michaela Cashmer had the assist. Petrosky's other tally came with 7:02 left in the contest with the assist going to senior Hanna McGowan.
Senior Ellie Petrosky had the assist on the second ECC goal as she teamed with senior Megan Dornisch for the score with 23:48 remaining to be played.
"It was a good solid effort," stated ECC coach Don Fabiano about the game. "We were just a little sluggish at the beginning but played very well - in the second half especially."
Despite being ahead 1-0 at halftime, Punxsy had the edge in shots at goal 4-3 in the first 40 minutes. In the second half, the shots favored ECC 12-0. The Lady Crusaders also had 11 corner kicks to the Lady Chucks' two.
"There was some nice play off the bench tonight," Fabiano said about Tuesday's contest. "Freshmen Jordan Lenox and Emma Daghir did great, as did players like (sophomores) Kylee Proudfit and Kendra Dornisch and juniors Danielle Hodgdon and Maria Tettis."
The victory raises ECC's mark to 14-0-1 and - with only one league game left against Brockway next week - clinches at least a tie for the UAVSL Central championship. This is the Lady Crusaders 7th straight league title.
"The league championship is something special for this team," said Fabiano. "The league is exceptionally strong from top to bottom this year."
ECC will return to action this afternoon with a home game against St. Marys at Benzinger Park starting at 4 p.m.
"St. Marys has been playing very good soccer this year," said Fabiano. "This game should be another close one."
