The Lady Crusaders of Elk County Catholic High School picked up their sixth win of the season on Saturday evening as they defeated the Sheffield Lady Wolverines by a 62- 17 score in an AML game played at the Aaron J. Straub Gymnasium on the Elk Catholic campus.
"Tonight's victory was a total team effort, as all 11 members of the squad contributed to the win," said ECCHS Head Coach Ken Pistner following Saturday's game. "We shot the ball very well from both the field and the foul line tonight."
All 11 members of the Lady Crusaders hit the scoring column on Saturday, with Lexie Meholic leading the way with 12 points on five field goals and a two-for-two night at the foul line. She was followed by Kristy Hanes with 11 points on four field goals and a trey. Abbi Petrosky chipped in with nine points, Taylor DaCanal with eigth points, Emily Gregory, Karly Carnovale and Maggie Sorg with four each, Anna Hawkins and Michelle Imbrogno with three each, and Ellie Petrosky and Helen Danz with two each.
Kristie Steffan led the Lady Wolverines with seven points, followed by Hannah Vile and Abbey Labesky with three each, and Brittany Summers and Hanna Fitch with two each.
The Lady Crusaders took control of the game right from the beginning, as they grabbed a 19-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
In the second stanza the Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Wolverines by a 15 to 3 margin to take a 36-7 lead at the halfway point in the game.
The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Wolverines by a 12 to 5 margin in the third period of play to take a commanding 48-12 lead into the final eight minutes of play.
Once again, the ECCHS girls outscored Sheffield 14-5 in the final stanza to take the game by a 62-17 score.
The Lady Crusaders are now 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Allegheny Mountain League.
The Lady Crusaders have two big games coming up this week, as they travel to Punxsutawney on Wednesday evening for a District 9 League encounter, then on Saturday evening they play host to their cross-town rival, the St. Marys Area High School Lady Dutch. For both nights, the JV game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, with the varsity set to start around 7:30 p.m.
