Lady Dutch avenge lone loss, beat DuBois 70-51; host Clearfield tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch raised their record to 15-1 on the season with a 70-51 victory over the DuBois Area Lady Beavers last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The win avenges the Lady Dutch’s only loss of the season. On Jan. 11 the Lady Beavers beat St. Marys 52-40 at DuBois.
The Lady Dutch were able to open the early 10-0 lead last night before DuBois was able to get on the board at the 3:51 mark of the first period. The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Beavers 12-4 in the first eight minutes of play.
“I thought we had an exceptional night on the boards,” said St. Marys coach Bob Swanson.
Kayla Hoohuli led with 10 rebounds, while Mandy Gerarge had six and Adair Gennocro added five.
“Overall, we had a pretty good team defensive effort, and I thought we executed our offense well when we finally decided to run it,” said Swanson.
The Lady Dutch offense was led by Kayla Hoohuli with 36 points on nine twos, two threes and a 12-for-13 night from the foul line. Besides her 36 points and 10 rebounds, Kayla also had two assists, three blocked shots and eight steals. Adair Gennocro added 13 points on four twos, one three and a two-for-two night from the foul line. Kiana Hoohuli added nine points and Mandy Gerarge had eight.
Swanson noted that his squad has a rough week ahead, as they play four games in seven days. Tonight they host Clearfield, travel to Punxsy Tuesday, host Bradford Thursday and host Elk Catholic next Saturday.
DuBois was led by Lindsay Obremski with 17 points on six twos, one three and a two-for-three night from the foul line. Samantha Kirk had 10 points on two twos and two threes.
The Lady Dutch opened a 10-0 lead as Kayla Hoohuli hit a three, Gerarge a two, Kiana Hoohuli a three and Kayla two foul shots before Obremski scored for DuBois. Kayla Hoohuli scored off a steal, making it 12-2. Obremski scored for DuBois, making the score 12-4 at the end of the first period.
Gennocro and Obremski traded buckets to open the second quarter. Kayla Hoohuli sank two foul shots before Casey Wilcox scored for DuBois, 16-8. Two foul shots by Kiana Hoohuli and a field goal by Kayla Hoohuli made it 20-8. Obremski connected on a three before St. Marys went on a 6-0 run, four by Kayla Hoohuli and two by Gerarge. Savannah Randolph and Melissa Stuart hit buckets, 26-15. Hoohuli and Stuart traded buckets. Gennocro sank two foul shots before Stuart converted a three-point play. Kayla Hoohuli sank two foul shots, giving St. Marys the 32-20 halftime lead.
Obremski and Gennocro traded buckets to open the third period. Kirk and Gerarge exchanged buckets, 36-24. Hoohuli hit a field goal before DuBois scored, 38-24. St. Marys went on a 10-0 run to go up 48-26 with 2:44 left in the quarter. Gennocro hit a two and a three, Gerarge a two and Kayla Hoohuli converted a three-point play in that span. After Obremski sank two foul shots, the Lady Dutch went on a 6-0 run as Gennocro, Gerarge and Kayla Hoohuli scored, 54-28. Jenna Maholtz scored for DuBois, making the score 54-30 at the end of three quarters.
Two foul shots by Kayla Hoohuli opened the fourth period. Wilcox and Gerarge traded buckets, as did Kayla Hoohuli and Obremski. Wilcox scored for DuBois and a three by Kayla Hoohuli gave St. Marys the 63-36 lead with 5:16 left in the game. In the closing minutes, the Lady Beavers outscored the Lady Dutch 15-7, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Dutch won 70-51.

Game notes
The Lady Dutch are now 15-1 overall and 6-1 in the District 9 League.

The Lady Dutch return to action tonight as they host the Clearfield Lady Bisons. There will be no junior varsity game tonight. The varsity game is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.

The St. Marys Area Cheerleading Youth Clinic participants performed a cheer during the first and second quarters of last night’s varsity game.

Tonight will also be Elementary Recognition Night for the Lady Dutch program.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch junior varsity team came out on top of a close game by a 39-37 score.
DuBois took a 10-8 first-period lead. They outscored St. Marys 9-4 in the second period for a 19-12 halftime lead.
The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Beavers 15-5 in the third period. In the final quarter, DuBois outscored St. Marys 13-12, making the final score 39-37 in favor of the Lady Dutch.
