Lady Dutch close out regular season with 67-31 win over Ridgway

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch picked up a 67-31 senior night victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers on Friday evening at St. Marys Area High School.
The Lady Dutch led all the way, taking a 19-7 first-period advantage, leading 36-12 at the half, and 52-20 at the end of three quarters.
"It was a nice win on senior night recognizing our three seniors. They played well tonight," said St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli.
The Lady Dutch were led by junior Adair Gennocro with 20 points on seven twos, a three, and a 3-for-4 night from the foul line. Junior Kiana Hoohuli and senior Jenna Anderson each added 11 points for St. Marys. Both had four twos and a three.
The Lady Elkers were led by senior Nicole Breier with 15 points on seven twos and a 1-for-2 night from the foul line. Christine Schauer had 6 points on three twos.
"Nicole, that was our senior, that was her last game. It was a really good game. I have no idea how many points she had, but she played really good. I thought she did well," said Ridgway coach Glenn Schauer.
"It's a little frustrating we can't get back on defense," Schauer added. "I mean, that's what I preached to them and preached to them. That was one of the things I wrote on the board before we went out there, and we still didn't get back on defense."
The Lady Dutch went on a 12-point run at the start, with five of the points coming from Hoohuli, four from Anderson, two from Gennocro, and a foul shot from Sloan Foster. Breier put the Lady Elkers on the board as she and Gennocro traded buckets. Angela DeAngelo sank a three for Ridgway to cut St. Marys' lead to 14-5. Gennocro and Foster each added buckets for the Lady Dutch. Christine Schauer scored for the Lady Elkers, and Abby Cribbs ended the quarter by making a foul shot for St. Marys, giving the Lady Dutch a 19-7 lead.
Gennocro and Hoohuli each added buckets for St. Marys to start off the second quarter. Amanda Shilk made a foul shot for Ridgway, and then St. Marys went on to add 13 more points throughout the remainder of the quarter, while Breier was able to add a pair of buckets for the Lady Elkers, making the score 36-12 at the half.
Breier scored the opening bucket of the second half to cut St. Marys' lead to 36-14. Hoohuli made a bucket for St. Marys and Gennocro sank a pair of foul shots. Breier made another bucket for Ridgway, and then the Lady Dutch went on a 12-point run on a three by Anderson, a bucket and foul shot by Gennocro, buckets by Hoohuli and Rachel Krieg, and a pair of foul shots by Becky Krieg to make their lead 52-16. The Lady Elkers ended the quarter with a pair of buckets by Taylor Roseto and Breier to make the score 52-20 in favor of St. Marys headed into the final period of play.
In the fourth quarter, Anderson started things off with a bucket for the Lady Dutch. Breier made a foul shot for Ridgway. Cassie Daniels and Schauer traded buckets, as did DeAnna Yost and Jenni Thomas. Cribbs scored another bucket for the Lady Dutch, Breier answered with one for Ridgway, Yost hit a three, and Foster made a bucket to make the score 65-27 with just over two minutes left on the clock. Breier made another bucket for Ridgway, Rachel Krieg scored the final points for St. Marys, and Schauer added a final bucket for the Lady Elkers to give St. Marys the 67-31 victory.

Game notes
With the win, the Lady Dutch finished their regular season with a 10-12 and they were 4-6 in the D9 League. They will now enter the D9 AAA playoffs against an opponent to be named by the D9 committee.

Senior players and senior members of the dance team were honored, along with their parents, prior to the start of the varsity contest.

The Lady Elkers finished their season with a 1-21 record.

Playing in her final game was Ridgway senior Nicole Breier.

JVs win
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch junior varsity squad recorded a 25-9 victory over the Lady Elkers in the preliminary contest.
St. Marys opened the game by scoring 10 points in the first period while holding the Lady Elkers scoreless. The Lady Dutch added 8 points in the second quarter while limiting Ridgway to just one, taking an 18-1 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Elkers rallied to outscore St. Marys 5-4 and cut their lead to 22-6. Both teams scored three points in the fourth quarter, giving St. Marys the 25-9 win.
