Lady Dutch defeat Brookville Lady Raiders 55-50 in overtime

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team outscored the Brookville Lady Raiders by a 12-7 margin in overtime to record a 55-50 victory.
The game was tied at 43 after 32 minutes of regulation. In the four-minute overtime period, Adair Gennocro sank nine of 12 foul shot opportunities and Kiana Hoohuli hit a field goal and was one-of-two from the foul line to account for the Lady Dutch points.
“The first three quarters were the best basketball we’ve played,” said St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli. The Lady Dutch held a 36-17 lead going into the fourth quarter.
“Brookville was able to find the right mix in the fourth quarter,” said the coach as the Lady Raiders outscored St. Marys 26-7 to force overtime.
“Adair (Gennocro) was our leading rebounder as well as our leading scorer. She is taking over the point guard role and doing a nice job,” said Hoohuli. Gennocro finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
“It was really a physical game as the officials let them play, especially in the fourth quarter,” Hoohuli noted.
Gennocro led St. Marys with 25 points on three twos, two threes and a 13-for-23 night from the foul line. Kiana Hoohuli scored 11 points on two twos, two threes and a one-for-two night from the foul line.
For Brookville, Karly Reinsel scored 21 points on nine field goals and a three-for-four night from the foul line. Emily Ferraro scored 17 points on six field goals and a five-for-seven night from the foul line.
The game opened with Sloan Foster of the Lady Dutch scoring at the 6:42 mark. Brookville’s Lanae Newsome scored at the 5:28 mark to knot the game at 2-all. Gennocro hit a three before Reinsel scored for Brookville. Gennocro made the score 7-4 at the 2:53 mark. Reinsel scored with a minute left in the period, 7-6. The Lady Dutch went on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter as Hoohuli and Gennocro hit threes and DeAnna Yost a two to make it 15-6.
The Lady Dutch scored the first seven points of the second period to open a 21-6 lead. Gennocro hit a two and converted two foul shots and Hoohuli hit a three. Reinsel hit a field goal and later converted a foul shot for Brookville, 21-9. Gennocro made the score 23-9 before Reinsel scored for Brookville, cutting the St. Marys lead to 23-11 at the half.
Anderson hit a three at the 7:32 mark and Yost hit a three at the 3:02 mark as the Lady Dutch went up 29-11. Reinsel and Yost traded buckets, twice, 33-15. Reinsel made it 33-17 with 1:13 left in the quarter. Gennocro sank a foul shot and Hoohuli hit a field goal with 10 seconds left in the quarter as the Lady Dutch led 36-17 after three quarters.
Two field goals by Reinsel made the score 36-21. Taylor Schutz converted two foul shots for the Lady Dutch. Amanda Ray scored for Brookville, with Gennocro sinking one of two foul shots. Brookville went on an 8-2 run to cut the Lady Dutch lead to 41-30. A foul shot by Reinsel and a three by Lanae Newsome cut the St. Marys lead to 41-34 with 3:02 left in regulation. A bucket by Ferraro made it 41-36. Reinsel’s field goal made it 41-38. Gennocro sank two foul shots with 1:38 left as St. Marys led 43-38. The Lady Raiders scored five points in the closing minutes to knot the game at 43 and send it to overtime.
Gennocro sank two foul shots at the 2:36 mark, giving St. Marys the 45-43 lead. Hoohuli hit a field goal, 47-43. Reinsel scored for Brookville, 47-45. Gennocro sank a foul shot, 48-43. Reinsel and Gennocro traded foul shots, 50-47. Reinsel cut it to 50-49. Hoohuli made it 51-49 with a foul shot with 29 seconds left. Reinsel made one foul shot, with Gennocro getting the rebound of her missed foul shot. Gennocro was fouled with 16 seconds left and sank both, 53-50. Brookville had a couple of opportunities to score but could not capitalize. Gennocro was fouled with three seconds left. She sank both as the Lady Dutch won 55-50.

Game notes
The Lady Dutch are now 9-7 on the season and 4-2 in District 9 League play.

The Lady Dutch return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Bradford to take on the Lady Owls. Game times are 6 p.m. for junior varsity and 7:30 p.m. for varsity.

The St. Marys junior varsity squad defeated Brookville by a 43-25 score.
Brookville took an 8-7 first-period lead. St. Marys outscored Brookville 14-5 in the second period to take a 21-13 halftime lead.
The Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Raiders 14-5 in the third period and 8-6 in the fourth quarter to win the game 43-25.
