Lady Dutch defeat DuBois Area 56-46 in D9 League play

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team raised their District 9 League record to 2-1 with a 56-46 victory over the DuBois Area Lady Beavers last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
After the Lady Dutch outscored the Lady Beavers 11-6 in the first quarter, they outscored DuBois 37-23 in the next two quarters to take a 48-29 lead with only eight minutes remaining.
“It’s all about defense and we played great defense tonight,” said St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli.
“We played a little bit sloppy late in the game,” she said. “We lost track of Cara LaBrasca in the second half and she was able to hit a couple of threes. We knew where she was in the first half.”
“Taylor Schutz did a nice job for us on the inside coming off the bench and Adair (Gennocro) did a nice job tonight, even though she got into early foul trouble,” added Hoohuli.
The Lady Dutch had balanced scoring, with four players reaching double figures. DeAnna Yost led the way with 14 points with four twos and two threes. Taylor Schutz scored 11 points on three field goals and a five-for-seven night from the foul line. Adair Gennocro and Kiana Hoohuli each scored 10 points. Gennocro scored her points on three field goals and a four-for-six night from the foul line. Hoohuli scored her points on four field goals and a two-for-two night from the foul line.
DuBois was led by Casey Wilcox with 20 points on six field goals and an eight-for-nine night from the foul line. Cara LaBrasca scored 16 points on seven field goals and a two-for-three night from the foul line.
DuBois took the early lead on two buckets by LaBrasca. Hoohuli and Katelyn LaBue traded buckets as DuBois led 6-2. Schutz made it 6-3 with a foul shot. After St. Marys tied the game at 6-all, Yost hit a field goal and Gennocro converted three foul shots as St. Marys led 11-6 after the first period.
Buckets by LaBrasca and Wilcox cut the Lady Dutch lead to 11-10 to start the second quarter. A three by Anderson and a two by Yost made it 16-10. Yost added another bucket before LaBrasca scored for DuBois, 18-12. Yost and LaBrasca traded buckets, 22-16. Anderson hit a two and Hoohuli scored on a putback to make it 26-16 with 1:18 left in the half. LaBrasca converted two foul shots before Schutz closed out the scoring in the first half with a three-point play as St. Marys led 29-18.
Wilcox scored to cut the St. Marys lead to 29-20 to start the second half. Schutz and Wilcox traded foul shots. Rachel Krieg and Schutz scored for St. Marys, 35-22. Wilcox converted a three-point play. Anderson hit a three and Schutz added a two to make it 39-25 with 4:03 left in the quarter. Yost and Gennocro added field goals as St. Marys went up 43-25. Wilcox scored for DuBois with Hoohuli hitting a two. Yost connected on a three to give the Lady Dutch a 48-27 lead. Wilcox scored with five seconds left, making the score 48-29 at the end of three quarters.
The fourth quarter found DuBois outscoring St. Marys 17-8 to make the final score 56-46. LaBrasca led DuBois with seven, while Samantha Kirk added six. Hoohuli paced St. Marys with four, while Rachel Krieg had two.

Game notes
The Lady Dutch are now 5-6 on the season. They are now 2-1 in District 9 League play.

The Lady Dutch return to action Saturday night when they play host to the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders in a District 9 League game.
