Lady Dutch improve to 17-1, beat Punxsy 63-48

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team raised their record to 17-1 overall with a 63-48 victory over the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks last night at Punxsy.
The Lady Dutch took charge early as they outscored Punxsy by a 20-6 margin in the first eight minutes of play. They led 36-17 at the half.
“I thought we played pretty well defensively in the first half and Mandy Gerarge played well defensively against Punxsy’s center, Shawnna Crago,” said St. Marys coach Bob Swanson.
“Kayla Hoohuli, Adair Gennocro and Gerarge each had five rebounds. Kiana Hoohuli also played well on the defensive end, coming up with six steals,” he added.
The Lady Dutch were led offensively by Kayla Hoohuli with 37 points on 10 twos, five threes and a two-for-three night from the foul line. Jenna Anderson was next with nine points, followed by Adair Gennocro with eight.
Alex Magill led Punxsy with 11 points on four twos and a three. Shawnna Crago added 10 points on four field goals and a two-for- four night from the foul line.
The first period found St. Marys outscoring Punxsy 20-6. Kayla Hoohuli led the Lady Dutch with 12 points, while three players each had a field goal for the Lady Chucks.
St. Marys outscored Punxsutawney 16-11 in the second period to open a 36-17 halftime lead. Hoohuli led the Lady Dutch with 12 points in the period. Ashley Reitz led Punxsy with four points.
Punxsutawney outscored St. Marys 13-12 in the third period, as St. Marys maintained a 48-30 lead with eight minutes remaining. Crago and Magill each scored four points to lead the Lady Chucks. Anderson and Rachel Walker led St. Marys with four points each.
The Lady Chucks outscored the Lady Dutch by an 18-15 margin in the fourth quarter, making the final score 63-48 in favor of the Lady Dutch. Magill led Punxsy with five points, while Kayla Hoohuli paced St. Marys with 10 points.

Game notes
The Lady Dutch are now 17-1 overall and 8-1 in District 9 League play.

The Lady Dutch return to action Thursday when they host the Bradford Lady Owls in a District 9 League encounter. Game time is 6 p.m for junior varsity and 7:30 p.m. for varsity.

JVs lose
The St. Marys junior varsity squad lost a 40-34 contest to the Lady Chucks.
Punxsy took a 15-7 first-period lead. The Lady Dutch outscored Punxsy 12-8 in the second quarter as Punxsy led 23-19 at the half.
The third period found the Lady Chucks outscoring the Lady Dutch 11-9. Each team scored four fourth-period points, with Punxsy winning 40-34.
