St. Marys Area’s Rachel Ginther’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Kali Quagliani from second base, giving the Lady Dutch a 1-0 victory over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders Friday afternoon at the SMAHS softball field.
Friday’s game was a pitcher’s duel between Rachel Ginther of the Lady Dutch and Taylor Schlimm of the Lady Crusaders. Ginther went the distance for St. Marys, giving up two hits and striking out 14. Schlimm went the distance for Elk Catholic, giving up three hits and striking out six.
“That’s what a fast-pitch softball game is supposed to be like, two pitchers battling it out,” said St. Marys coach Manny Gerarge.
“Kali’s (Quagliani) big at-bat and Rachel’s (Ginther) big hit to go along with her pitching performance were the difference in the game,” noted Gerarge. “It was a good game.”
Getting the three hits for St. Marys were Erica Sorg, Rachel Ginther and Mandy Gerarge, all singles.
For Elk, Jessie Ginther had a double and Michelle Imbrogno singled.
“It was a good pitcher’s duel between two good pitchers,” said ECCHS assistant coach Digger O’Dell.
